You use us as an insult
Yet all your mighty empires, towers and palaces
Are built upon our backs
You are soil creatures too - so don’t forget it
And be a little sparing with your chemical attacks.

You farm for money
We farm just to live and be and build
And love the sacred soil
On which you too depend.
For all your so-called higher things
Depend upon our toil.

Oh yes, the humble earthworm, we often hear you say
Maybe a measure of humility
Will shortly come your way.
