RadConOne
John Papworth has directed myself and Anton
Pinschoff at the 'Cliff's Edge Signalling Company' to take on the task
of publishing 'Common Sense' and the proceedings of 'RadConOne'. CESC's
deadline is Guy Fawkes Day 2001. There will be a section in the
proceedings for your impressions of the 'Radical Consultation'. Write
these down now and get them off to me right away…and why not send copies to
your friends and neighbours?

Next month Chris Wright will be convening the first
meeting of the 'RadConTwo' working group. If you want to continue your
involvement with the work of the 'Radical Consultations' then make sure
you let Chris know. John Papworth will be attending the first meeting at which
I will present the final draft of the 'RadConOne' Proceedings.

Next Steps So Far
The global crisis is the result of allowing power to
leak away from local communities. Your task in the months ahead is to do
everything you can to deal with this global problem by building your own
locally empowered community. This is where the really big jobs will be in the
years ahead. Below are the action steps from the workshop reports received so
far.
Work & Human Fulfilment
Ø Adapt Nicholas Albery's 'Apprentice-Master
Alliance' to meet your local needs
Ø Apply the 'let us assume a
locally empowered community' approach to develop local alternatives
Ø Propose a 'local
curriculum' as a radical contrast to applying the 'National Curriculum'
Ø Organise 'Alternative
Work Fayres' for schools as a radical contrast to job-based 'Career
Fairs'
Ø Bring young people into 'Parish
Councils' through job-sharing or
quotas
Ø Promote the guaranteed
income (see 'Future Work' & 'Future Wealth' by James
Robertson)
Globalisation, Money & Trade
Ø Be responsible consumers by
spending money in ways which promote the conditions you want
Ø Organize local exchange
systems and currencies, community supported agriculture, farmer's markets
Ø Find the “high leverage
points” and apply influence where it is most likely to be effective
Ø Create citizen-based
organizations to provide private certification standards
Ø Get involved in your local
schools and try to influence the curriculum
Ø Promote the land value tax
Community Empowerment & the Bio-regional Vision
Ø Create a bio-regional
community based on an existing eco-village
Ø Develop tools for Bio-Region
mapping and community participation/empowerment
Ø Create a bioregion
Ø Encourage landowners to
encourage access to land
Ø Create planning systems
based on bio-regional principles, local consensus, carrying capacity etc.
Ø Encourage government to
further promote and sustain initiatives eg. environmentally sensitive areas
