return to top page ABOUT THE FOURTH WORLD The Fourth World has established itself across a period of over forty years as the most consistent and visionary voice of radicalism that has emerged from the collapse of centralised mass left party intellectual integrity of the sixties.
Despite the disarray of traditional left-groupings ranging from the Communists, the Fabians, Labourites, Trotskyites and others, to faded pink liberalism, The Fourth World has maintained a positive opposition to unfree market globalisation and other forces by insisting democracy is not a dose of medicine to be taken twice a decade, but that it is a way of life based on the ability of ordinary people to make their own decisions about the way they live.
Its advocacy of human-scale politics insists that the village or neighbourhood council is the primary unit of democratic politics rather than parliament or any other centralised body, and that the main body of decision-making must flow from the local upwards rather than the reverse procedure of current practice.at a new idea has three stages, ridicule, discussion and adoption. At present we are still at the first; let us not dally there too long.
